Job Description:

We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale the software engineering organization at Warehouse Anywhere as the company evolves into a technology-first storage and logistics platform. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this leader owns the strategy, execution, and delivery of modern, cloud-based applications built on .NET, React & Power Platform, while building and developing a high-performing engineering team of full-time staff and contractors.

This role combines technical leadership with people leadership. The Director sets engineering direction and standards, owns architecture and delivery across the application portfolio, and partners closely with Product, DevOps, Data, Operations, and business stakeholders to translate company priorities into reliable, scalable software. The Director is equally comfortable shaping roadmaps and architecture as they are coaching engineers and driving operational excellence in a fast-moving, PE-backed environment.

The Director uses Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools daily to accelerate engineering productivity, strengthen technical deliverables, and improve the quality of planning and decision-making, while operating as the experienced human in the loop and using AI responsibly. This is a leadership role with a defined path to senior leadership as the engineering function scales.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the vision, strategy, and execution for the software engineering function. Align technical roadmaps with company objectives and OKRs, and translate business priorities into engineering plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with the CTO and Product leadership to shape the technology roadmap. Sequence delivery priorities, balance investment across new features and platform health, and communicate trade-offs clearly.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards and best practices. Define expectations for code quality, security, automated testing, and documentation, and hold the team accountable to them.
  • Build a culture of ownership and accountability. Set a high bar for engineering excellence and ensure the team operates with urgency, transparency, and customer focus.

Architecture & Technical Direction

  • Lead architectural decisions for modern, cloud-based applications. Guide the design of .NET (C#) backends, React/TypeScript frontends, RESTful and event-driven services, Power Platform low-code, and Azure-based infrastructure for performance, security, and scalability.
  • Drive technical design reviews. Ensure sound engineering trade-offs across the application portfolio and guide decisions on data models, integrations, and authentication and authorization patterns.
  • Champion modernization and continuous improvement. Identify opportunities for refactoring, automation, and re-architecture that reduce technical debt and improve reliability.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team. Lead full-time engineers and contractors, set clear goals and expectations, and manage performance with regular, direct feedback.
  • Develop future technical leaders. Coach engineers, support career development and succession planning, and grow the depth and breadth of the team’s capabilities.
  • Own hiring and onboarding as the team scales. Partner with HR to attract, select, and ramp strong engineers and manage vendor and contractor relationships.

Delivery & Execution

  • Own end-to-end delivery across agile teams. Ensure predictable, high-quality releases through disciplined sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, and capacity planning.
  • Remove blockers and manage dependencies. Coordinate across Product, DevOps, and business functions to keep delivery on track and surface risks early.
  • Balance feature delivery with reliability. Protect time for platform stability, performance, and technical debt reduction alongside new product work.

Cloud, DevOps & Quality

  • Partner with DevOps leadership on Azure environments. Oversee CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production readiness to ensure reliable, secure deployments.
  • Raise the bar on software quality. Drive automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, strong code review practices, and consistent quality standards across teams.
  • Own engineering operational metrics. Track reliability, performance, and security across deliverables and drive continuous improvement against them.

Cross-Functional Partnership & AI Adoption

  • Partner closely with Product, Data, Operations, and Customer Success. Deliver solutions that drive business value and translate cross-functional needs into engineering execution.
  • Communicate technical strategy to technical and non-technical audiences. Present progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to executive stakeholders and the broader organization.
  • Use Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools daily. Accelerate design, code review, planning, and documentation, while establishing prompts, guardrails, and responsible-use patterns for the engineering team and operating as the experienced human in the loop.

Reporting & Communication

  • Submit a written weekly update to leadership. Cover delivery status against roadmap, engineering health, key risks and issues, decisions or asks, and next week’s focus.
  • Lead a monthly engineering KPI review with leadership. Cover delivery predictability, reliability and quality metrics, team health, and progress on technical debt and automation.
  • Communicate honestly and early. Surface bad news with the same urgency and clarity as good news.

Leadership Standards

  • Demonstrate ownership of outcomes by preparing with data, presenting with clarity, committing to next steps, and avoiding deflection or surprises.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, sound judgment, and consistent decision-making aligned to company expectations.
  • Model and reinforce Warehouse Anywhere’s cultural values, Solutions-Driven, Teamwork, Operational Excellence, Reliability, Accountability, Game-Changing Innovation, and Ethics, in every internal and stakeholder interaction.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  1. Delivery Predictability: Consistently meet committed roadmap milestones and sprint commitments across engineering teams.
  2. Quality: Reduce production defects and escaped bugs through strong testing, code review, and release practices.
  3. Reliability & Performance: Maintain agreed uptime, performance, and security targets across production applications.
  4. Engineering Velocity: Improve throughput and cycle time without sacrificing quality.
  5. Team Health & Retention: Attract, develop, and retain engineering talent and grow internal bench strength.
  6. Technical Debt & Automation: Demonstrate measurable reduction in manual effort and technical debt through automation and process improvement.

Compensation Structure

  • Base salary range: $145,000 – $170,000 plus an 10% annual performance bonus tied to engineering delivery and team KPIs. Actual compensation will depend on experience and qualifications.
  • Detailed bonus plan provided as a separate document at offer stage.

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 3 to 5 years leading or managing engineering teams.
  • Strong expertise in .NET / C#, including ASP.NET Core and Web APIs.
  • Strong experience with modern frontend development using React and TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
  • Experience architecting scalable systems and working with relational databases (SQL Server) and data modeling.
  • Experience delivering software in cloud environments, with Azure preferred.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Proven ability to build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams.
